Why I Love Homeschooling, #247

Yet another reason I love homeschooling!
.
Peter is taking a co-op class this semester on medieval history. It is taught by one of the teen boys in the group, assisted by his mom. He is doing a great job of inspiring and motivating this group! Peter came home one Thursday and said,
.
"Can I do a report for school tomorrow?"
.
Not a *typical* request! ;-) Not totally convinced that there would be any follow-through, I said, "Sure."
.
The next thing I knew, Peter was scavenging the house for encyclopedias and dictionaries. He carried his stack of books around, working almost non-stop the rest of the evening. Early the next morning, he popped into the kitchen and asked, "Mom, can I give my report during school today?"
.
Not to be outdone by her older brother, Bayley did some research of her own, and put together a short report herself.
.
That Friday morning, Peter presented his report on knights to us, and Bayley presented hers on box turtles. For a "do-it-yourself" report with no assignment (and no help), they did a great job!
What fun to be part of our children learning to love learning!!

That is wonderful.

One of our initial reasons for homeschooling was to nurture our daughter's love for learning. I graduated from college thinking that education was a chore, something that you had to do, not something to do for fun. It took me about ten years to rediscover the joy of learning new things.
